working on a 89 stock coupe. Hadnt been started for year, but ran before this. Water in fuel--fuelpump, strainer, filter replaced. tank cleaned.Still won't start. Fuel press good and has spark.
Won't flash code 12. Replaced ECM w/ original PROM. Still no code 12. says replace prom next. anything else I should do or check before this. would fuel problem be likely cause of ecm failure
/ thanks
Oil presure switch will cause the engine not to start if it is not plugged in.
It's at the back of the intake ,the big bell shaped thing that screws in the back of the block center of the intake manifold.
Use your timing light to see if spark is at the right time. Does fuel pressure hold up with ignition off? If not, leaky injectors can cause too rich condition for starting. Unplug an injector and connect a noid light (available at parts store) or a low power 12v lamp like a 194 side marker lamp across the socket and see if the lamp flashes when cranking showing the ECM is pulsing the injectors. Remove the hose to the input of the MAF to ensure a clogged air filter isn't starving the engine of air. Unplug the MAF and try a start, this finds defective MAF.
