Default LT1 timing question

Can someone with an LT1/4 please do me a favor? Check the location of the mark on the harmonic balancer with piston #1 at tdc?

I have a timing issue, and before I pull the front of the damn motor off and check my opti rotor position I was hoping I could at least tell how close it is this way. If memory serves, the HB pulley can go on different ways, but the balancer itself is keyed, therefore the mark on it should be in the same place for all of us at that position...

Of course if anyone already knows the answer that's fine, too

The problem I see here though is that stock LT1/4 hubs are not keyed to the crank, so they could be off at whatever angle. Or am I missing something??

#1 at TDC should have the arrow at 12:00 on compression stroke.

but the HB is not keyed, so even if there is an arrow, there is no guarantee that it wasn't shifted somewhere down the line....

True but 97% of the time it will be @12:00

The hub itself with a center bolt to the crank will be almost impossible to break loose a notch. Unless it is supercharged.

I took a closer look at my old block and realized i'm backwards. The pulley only goes on one way, the balancer itself can go on any way. THerefore I don't see how it can be used to check positioning.

Damn internally balanced engines.

Guess I'll have to put some degree tape on it and check with a timing light.

The front hub and pully is 0 balanced from the factory. It doesn't make a difference how it's installed as to a balancing issue. I've had mine apart recently and I don't even remember any timing marks on it. I know the main hub that bolts to the crank was not set a TDC (the arrow on it) when I took it off. I tried to get it on that way, but I really don't know that it makes any difference. Timing on a LT is set by the computer. You just have to make sure everything is lined up when you put the motor together. I check my timing by laptop and Data Master.

I'm sorry, I didn't check your profile. When you posted LT1/4 I figured you were '94 or later. With a '93 you can't use the same software I do. I hate to say it, but I'm of no help now.
