Heck that's doesn't hold a candle to the tuner cat fights we've had over here.
Boy you hit that on the button! Ed is a excellent tuner, however he is still human as is all of us, and we ALL screw up from time to time. I know that Ed works in HEX at times, as I have seen it. Long before there was Tuner Cat, LT1 Edit and others, HEX was all we had, unless you had the actual GM tools which I suspect Ed did at one time or maybe he still does. I can say that the GM tools are highly guarded and are available to their calibration engineers and a few select OEMs. I finally got a hold of their MEFI software, it was a nightmare to get. I won't say how but I can say its very cryptic, hard to use and archaic but if one wants to tune the MEFI (RAMJET) ECMs, this is the only tool that is available. Some have said there will be a commercially available tool but I haven't seen or heard of one personally. The MEFI scan tool which GM calls "PCHUD" sux to say the least but it does work. However the only good thing about the software is that it has a very fast update time when datalogging. The bad thing is that you have to set up every parameter that you want to datalog. Sorta like Auto Tap
The old LT1 stuff had been disassembled about as far as it can, all the tables are in TC and maybe by now in LT1 Edit. There was arguments there that Ed could do things that are not in commercially available editors, maybe in HEX and only if he had the completely disassembled the code or if he uses TC which he said he does, he could modify the def file and add his own constants or tables that he found. Which even I have done on several of TC's definitions. I still find the pissing match amusing. As for me I typically won't do a mail order tune unless its something common or something I have done before. Otherwise I have the customer come to my shop where I can lay my hands on the car and strap it down on the dyno.
Someday I might need a tune. The post gives me a bit of an idea of the personality of the different tuners. As for skills, I'm sure there's not big differences between the tuners.

It does not take much to attack some one with a keyboard.
