when listening to my stereo, i noticed that the rear speakers really overpower the fronts. its not a fader problem, what i found was the front rocker covers that go along each side of the car on the side of the seats and cover the front speakers, mine do not have any type of speaker grill. how is the sound supposed to go through a layer of thick carpet. i dont know if my covers are aftermarket but that is my guess. i took some pics to show that i have no grills, and the carpet is way to thick for sound to come through. it does come through, but the sound is totally smothered by the carpet. i will try to post pics, they might end up being links. http://x11.putfile.com/12/33822264575.jpg http://x11.putfile.com/12/33822273834.jpg
i looked at pics of other vette's and they seem to have a square piece of carpet where the speaker is that mine doesnt have. i dont want to cut holes and put cheesy grill on there but i really want to hear the front speakers as much as i hear the rears, and if i fade more to the front, i can hear them louder, but then the rears are quiet. can anyone give me advise? its a 92 i forgot to say that

Reason: forgot the year
your car came with the base delco non-bose system. That explains the different look of the rocker panels.
In picture 1, I can see the outline of the speaker relief.
More than likely, the speakers in the rear are bigger and are taking more power away from the smaller fronts. They are also aimed at your head better... this is causing some issue, I am sure, with sound field balance.
What speakers do you have? What is that head unit?
Looks as if someone recarpeted the panels and covered ourspeaker grills
You should be able to feel the grill. I just did all my carpet and the grill
piece is seperate from the panel. The material used to cover the grill is thinner and can be purchased from "The Last Detail" if not elsewhere. It matches color just w/o backing
My "91" front speakers are covered with the factory carpet but, the carpet material is thinner around the speaker area as jispr mentioned.
I installed Infinity Kappa 5 1/4" component speakers and I hear them very well through the carpet but, even with the stock non Bose speakers, the sound level was fine.
Thanks for your input i determined the problem is the carpeting has got backing on it which is blocking all of my sound. Someone Recarpeted the vehicle and went right over the speaker grills. Probably because they found out that the speaker carpet thats supose to go on the grill is not available, ive checked with the Last Detail and Ecklers and a couple other Corvette shops and they all tell me its not available. They knew exactly what i was talking about and said its a much thinner carpet with perferated holes in it to allow the sound to come through clear. So my thinking now is to put some 6x9 or a 6 1/2" round, but would like to see pictures of what you guys may have done with your cars. Again im referring to the front speakers near your feet. I was trying to keep the car original but doesnt look like im going to find that speaker carpet. Any suggestions would be appreciated!! Pics would be terrific of what you guys may have done, Thanks
