Default Hatch drain kit?

I'm going to need to replace the hatch weatherstripping on my 93 coupe and I wondered about installing a hatch drain kit at the same time. Has anyone installed this kit and does it work well?

Thanks,
Ron

I have had mine installed since 2002 and it was a great mod. I also replaced my seal at that time. I will be running down to the garage after lunch and will shoot a couple photos of where to drill the holes. However, the instuctions although limited give a good descrioption of where to drill. Just need to use some good basic drilling skills like marking, punch, pre-drill with a smaller diameter bit and then the final to be real safe. Also make sure you keep your drill motor perpindicular and straight. You will see all of this when you line up your drill in the pocket. I also removed my rear fender skirts to get a good look at what was under there. the fibergalss is double walled where you need to drill, but don't worry about that either, it will all go smoothly!!
Good Luck - Just Do it!

Now let's see how long it is before someone posts about using a leaf blower instead.

Any chance of water freezing there and cracking the spot where you drill?

Seriously, they work great. Water doesn't puddle in the corner anymore.

I'm a bit leary of drilling anywhere on my car . So I just use a 99 cent turkey baster to drain the corners of the hatch and no problemos ....

The system works great ant the kit is very simple yet really overpriced. When you get it you'll understand.

I pulled the rear fender well liners bfore installing. That way I could view the tubes during installation and where they exited.

NOTE: there is a ground wire underneath the L/H hatch ledge right where your going to drill. So pull the carpet back and clear the wires before proceding.

I used a long dril bit to help guide the drain tube through during installation. If you don't do this carefully the drain tube will dump into the rear cargo area.

Once completed the drains will make short work of constantly dealing with the collected water around the lower hatch seal.

I'd love to see pics of them installed. I guess I can't understand how they will be flush enough to drain all the water that collects there. Same thing with the fuel door area drain kit.

I tried to post a pic for you but the system is acting funny tonite.

The drain consists of a brass grommet that is inserted into the drilled hole. What I did was to drill the hole as close to the base of the window gasket flange as possible. when inserting the the grommet I bent the flange so the hole was matched to the drilled hole. This fits so nice and drains so well! You can hardly tell its there.

Best spot is right below the latch hole as you look at it from the top. This is the lower most point to allow full drainage. Just drill straight down through the latch hole. I just drilled a hole. No drain tube or anything.

Edit. This is for the hood latch area up front to be clear and not confuse.

That's the very reason why I just drilled a hole straight down through the latch hole. Full drainage.

Then all the water will end up INSIDE the car ... that is the reson for using the tube. You drill thru two layers of fiberglass. After the first layer you are inside the car and after the second you are outside again. The tube makes sure that the water goes out under the car.

edit,

I read again ... Latch?
