Default Up side to Impala head gaskets?

The Impala head gaskets will sit on either way. I know the impala had iron both sides but with the Corvette we have Iron one side and aluminum the other. One side of the gasket has more of the metal sealing ring showing and the other side mostly fiber. I can reason to myself why either would go one way or another. Which is correct? or doesnt it matter?
Thanks
Roy

Iron on one side and aluminum on the other? You are joking, right?

Default Impala head gaskets

No I am not joking. I am referring to the surfaces that the gasket contacts. The Impala has Cast iron heads, the vette has aluminum. They both have iron blocks. Thus when installed on an Impala the head gasket contacts iron on both sides. When installed on a vette it contacts iron on one side and aluminum on the other. So I am trying to figure out if it matters which side of the head gasket I install facing up. But rereading my first post now it sure looks clear as mud.

I understood you fine. I know what you're asking, when the gasket has a different appearance but will go either way, which way's right? No hard and set answer. But with head gaskets in such cases, I always put the side with any lettering, numbers, etc. up. The only time I remember not being able to apply this was with the old FE Ford engines such as the 390, 428, etc. The gaskets for them would only go one way, but both were made the same and so you ended up with the two gaskets on the engine with opposite sides up, or having a different appearance as you describe. Made me scratch my head the first time I did one but obviously it caused no problems because that's the only way they could be installed. I don't know if this answers your question but it's all I can tell you.
