Default Forced air induction kit

I'm new to vettes, and just trying to get a little more out of my engine through an intake to start and was wondering if anyone had tried Zip's Forced air induction kit? do you think it's worth the money or should I start looking to do something else. I've never been a big motor guy, but now is the time I guess. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

If you're talking about the vortex air rammer I've heard that gains are kinda 'eh' and they tend to warp over time from the heat under the hood.

The Vortex Rammer is junk, period.... poorly designed and made with cheap materials. I no longer sell them or recommend them to my customers.

^*$^%(*%(&^%$@@###it.... Thats the very one I wanted! You'd think for the price they'ed at least used decent plastic. Looks like I gotta keep looking, maybe I will be homebrewing mine. »keith

actually i went on zip's website. it is a forced air kit that utilizes the front license plate area for the air to enter. check it out and let me know what you think.

I run one now, but WHEN it warps or whatever, I think I will copy the pattern into some aluminum body or something similar (maybe fiberglass). I do like the design though! I also run one of those "BIG MOUTH" scoops that some guy on e-bay still or used to make out of heavy guage aluminum to scoop up the air into the rammer!

The one you are talking about is a quality piece. LPE uses them (Lingenfleter). I have seen them on a car that was monitoring the Intake Air temp and his was a 93 as was mine, and mine was 40 degrees hotter idleing . SO it is worth it, and I believe the system is pretty safe when it comes to water/rain hitting the intake.

Most available for your car are crap: Vortex is cheap, SLP is not a true CAI, and although I believe the Forced Induction from LPE would help a heavily modded car, I have seen no result that convinces me of that.

Problem is that dyno results for these are not accurate measures, the car has to be moving for them to do their job. (or a huge blower in front of the dyno) So you'll need track results to prove it to me.

Phill Tobin had one on "hoover", his 10 second Vette and it really helped with haveing colder air come in , which as you know is important for density etc. I bet if you did a back to back dyno with one getting air from a cool source ouside the car, then one with the hood shut on a C4 useing a factory style air intake, I bet the cooler one will have better numbers.

As long as your providing the airbox nice, high quality, straight, cool air your doing Ok.

the problem I have with many ram air kits is they suck right off the 130 degree pavement.

I have been looking at that system for years, but I can not get over the price. I understand that I am going to pay the "corvette tax" but almost $500 for some plastic pieces just drives me
For the same money, I can get bigger gains.
I still really like that system though! hope I can find a used one sometime...

I have one of the types that is basically a "flipped" stock airbox. The exisitng filter and housing go on the bottom and poke through an opening that you have to cut in the radiator shroud. This is a quality piece that was only about $250 and I have had it on for several years without problems. Unfortunately, I am not sure if anyone makes these anymore, which is a shame.
