Is this good info on L98 performance upgrades or just shameless self promotion/advertising. Is it worth the $20 they want for it?

I had this a while ago but I have no idea what the heck I did with it. It seemed like it had some good info, things like when certain parts become restrictive (maf, throttle body, ect), what there is to offer for the tpi engine as far as high performance, and stuff like that. When I had the book I was alot less knowledgable as I am now and I wish I could find it! Those guys have been racing tpi's for like 25 years or so, I would think they would know a thing or two about engines. Ive talked to them on the phone and they seem pretty knowledgable. I think its worth a shot buying.

I bought it and found it useful. It has a wealth of information , you learn about your car's systems and there are a lot of test results. No one will force you to buy their products.
I'm sure some will say the test results are bunk but some of them have been confirmed by publications like GM High Performance magazine
You can actually use the info to cut through some of the myths.

I don't think anyone would de-bunk their statements it is just that much of that info has become public knowledge and has become available right here. For someone who hasn't looked into this forum or by others here who have the experience, I am sure it would be all new and informative reading to at least look into performnce upgrades etc..

The info in the book can be useful, depending on your lever of knowledge to start with. Some facts in and of themselves can be misunderstood or misused by someone without the backgroung to evaluate how they might apply to their (or anyone elses) circumstances. I found the book to be a good source of data. When rebuilding my 87 this past year, I used it as a guide and measured their info against other available info as well as input from my Forum buddies here. Some things I applied, some things I didn't. But it sure helped me know what I should be looking for and asking about.

I got it and then made some mods. Then I got the Lingenfelter SBC book. I wish I had the Lingenfelter book first.

It was one of the first of my Corvette library. Based on that book I bought an airfoil. That is all.

bought the Lingenfelter book that was printed in 96 and some of its info is now outdated especially cylinder head wise. the TPIS book I think was printed in 88 pretty old info today but would buy a used copy if price was right! What the heck I still have a book with Smokeys sbc ideas and that was printed in 72. Was pretty radical back then!

It is a great source of authoritative foundation information. Most of their conclusions and recommendations are backed by hard data which I like a lot. I used it for a reference in gutting the MAF and porting the GM plenum. It was first published when information on TPI was slim, so was very useful then. I guess I get a little tired of the critics. It is what it is and if a person has only entry level knowledge and wants an excellent foundation backed by hard data to get a basic L98 up to about 375-400HP at relatively low expense with a lot of things one can do themselves, it is great for that. I cannot think of a better source.

The Corvette Forum is a great source of more current info on specific applications, but I like a resource that takes me step by step through the entire airflow components of the engine and evaluates areas of improvement of each one. Basic supporting data is often not passed along in CF or gets passed along inaccuarately and there are simply differences of opinion, so one has to decide who's right and who is not I like conclusions based on hard testing rather than opinion.

Many of the questions asked daily on CF can be read right out of that publication, so it is still quite useful. Although TPIS is a seller of parts and services too, there is a bias toward their products because those products are the result of their testing. But I do not see it as a giant advertisement.
