I'm getting close to installing my new cam. The engine[ ZZ4 crate engine] has less than 1000 miles on it. It had from the factory with roller lifters and I'm adding along with the cam Crane 1.6 roller rockers. Are the push rods OK to use. Iwas told I'll need harden rods. Are the ZZ4 rods considered harden??
If you are using stock type "self aligning " rockers you don't need guide plates therefore you don't need hardened pushrods.
On the otherhand if using "non self aligning " rockers you need guideplates therefore hardened pushrods on account the pushrods rub against the guideplate.
Thanks. I already have the studs and guide plates installed. Therefore I need different push rods. I'm getting a real education installing this cam. Thanks
You also need to make sure they are the correct length. The Crane rockers may be slightly different. Need to make sure the rocker crosses the mid 2/3's of the valve stem. You can use some tracing paper to see the pattern. But at TDC, the rocker should be above the midpoint of the stem, and at full lift below the midpoint. Getting a pushrod length checker is an inexpensive way of making sure.

Are they stock guideplates or ones you have installed?
The question remains are they proper guideplates or just the plates installed to aid assembly at the factory.
The ZZ4 uses the "113" Vette head with better (LT4 ) springs.
I personally think thestock ZZ4 plates are not proper guide plates as ZZ4 have self aligning rocker therefore do not use guideplates in the true sense
DO NOT use guideplates with self aligning rockers. If the Cranes' came with the guideplates then use them.Using guideplates with self aligning rockers may cause binding which is a bad thing.

Can anyone elaborate a little more on this process, or have any pics or where the rocker roller needs to be on the valve stem. I need to check this as well on my build.
