How much torque can the rear end of a C4 handle? What is the weak link from the drive shaft to the wheel bearings? Also any issues with the suspension mounting points/carriers?
Thanks!
well... what rear end do you have? 1984, all Vettes came with the Dana 36. From 1985-1996 all manual vettes came with the D44, and autos came with the D36.
The D36 is not going to take the abuse a D44 will.
The weakness seems to be in the case itself, either way. But with the D36, the diff itself isn't as stout.
A D44 should be able to deal with 600hp/ft lbs. the D36? less...
Thanks vader86 that was really an interesting read.
Is it possible to have a custom set of parts made so that the 4th in an A4 would have an "ultra low" 4th? You'd get the fun of running all round town in 3rd like it was a 3:35 and put it into D for the hiway and get some nice milage with my 3.07? Or is that theoretically only possible with a manual?
