Default Need Tires and Shocks...

I need new tires and shocks for my '92 C4. Can someone fill me in on the latest and greatest? I picked up on a few threads that recommend KYBs, but could not find much on tires...

There are tons of threads to be found on these topics but the general consensus is for the not-made-of-money type guy (like me) Kuhmo for the tires and KYB for the shocks.

If you have a lot of money to throw at these parts you can do better, but these are quality, cost effective choices. I have Kuhmos on my '95 now and really like them.

More of a personal preference question than the "latest and greatest". For a personal reference I would recommend Goodyear Eagle F1 tires and KYB shocks for a smooth / controlled ride. If you want all stock original, than go with the Bilsteins. They are more firm and will definitely keep your car tight to the road.

I really would choose any performance series Goodyear for our cars. I just think they are the best in my opinion.

Good luck,
Dino

Everybodies got an opinion on this one, so here's mine. Tires: dry only=BF Goodrich TA KD's, wet/dry Goodyear Eagle F1's. Shocks: performance driving=Bilsteins, cruising=Edelbrock IAS.

There's no one answer. Its a personal choice thing. You'll get many answers that are all correct. I like KYB"s for shocks. For me its the most bang for the buck. And for tires, go to the TireRack. Its a great web site that will give you answers.

I have a KYB and Kumho 712 combination. Works well on my 91.

ceb, plz fill in the blanks in your profile. And tell us in this thread:
-where do you live,
-during what weather do you drive the Corvette (lotta rain, some snow, all desert all the time),
-what kind of traction do you need,
-do you race, where do you race,
-what's the top end of your thought on dollars per item, (practically any of the shocks will last a long time. tires, on the other hand, won't or maybe won't),
-how many miles on the car, the shocks, the tires, etc.?

Need more specifics otherwise you just get personal preferences, which isn't bad but may not be as helpful to you and your wallet.

I have KYB's on my lowered Vette. Plenty stiff enough.

For tires, I went w/ the Goodyear F1GSD3's. Couldn't be happier.

The two current tires available that are hands down top of the line are the Goodyear GS-D3s and the Michelin Pilot PS2s. I drag race and autox with them. I get 1.8 60ft. I also ran this combo with the vette club autox and placed 2nd overall. Even made a pass in the rain and was only 3 seconds off my 2nd place overall time. Tires are the most important part of your vehicle. These two types are the best. I got them from discount tire with the 90-days same as cash deal. You can see their ratings on tirerack.

Goodyear F1s and Koni adjustables (Yellow) Very nice combo on my 89.
The Goodyears are the best tire I have ever owned and have put them on my other cars as well. (Audi TT and Ford Focus).

Those are all excellent recommendations, especially if money is a consideration.
If you get a nice tax refund, you might want to look at the Koni Sports or the QA-1 shocks. (latest/greatest)
The Goodyear F1 GS-D3 just won Car and Driver's latest tire test and is a great all-around tire, regardless of price.

Oh, how we love to spend your money!!!
