Default Dana 44 gear Question

I did a search and couldn't find the answer, so here goes...

I just bought some 3.90 gears to replace my 3.08's in my Dana 44. I'm in the process of getting them set-up and the ring gear is hitting the housing. Is this a common problem? They're not hitting really hard and it looks like I could get a die grinder and a sanding disc and clearance it, but I thought I'd ask the pool of experts before I started removing material.

THANK YOU in advance for the help.

By the way....anybody need these 3.08s?

I didn't think you had to clearance gears until 4:10. Interesting.

I've seen photos of clearanced cases on this forum before, so interferrence has been known to occur.
Die grinder/Dremel was the solution in those instances as well.

Yeah they will hit. Two sets of 3.73s I did have this problem. Well not really a problem...just make a little clearance for them with a file. One set was just barely touching and by forcing the gears around it clearanced itself.

Just don't go nuts clearancing them. The cases are not real thick.

the guys that put in my 4.09 gears used a 4 series carrier and when i put in the 3.92 gears, they also said to use the 4 series carrier, which is different than the factory 3 series carrier.
