Default radio noise

Anyone know how to get that whistle noise out of the radio. It occurs when engine is running and goes up and down with RPM. 1984 Corvette has the Pioneer CD player that Corvette Central sells as a replacment for the stocker.

Check your ground and make sure it is a good ground. Might want to use a multi-meter to test it just to make sure. The vette's don't have a lot of ground choices. Was the factory harness cut or did you install an aftermarket harness that plugs into your factory harness? Last result you could try is to put resistor plugs in the car. I wouldn't but that might be your ticket. Good luck!

Even add a couple grounds if you can.

I used to compete car audio, and we always added ground to prevent noise.

May be the AC component of your alternator as well. That can be improved with good grounding but sometimes it is very hard to get rid off completely. It sounds like a low whistle or sirene. Check if the generator is attached well and makes a good ground. You can disconnect your alternator, (Connect it at an other battery for that test, some alternators do not like to be run opencircuit) If the sound is gone, the radio is sensitive for that AC component. There are radios that do that, reason why you should take the postive as short as possible from the battery and the battery ground should be good as well. But if that means a change to the harnes, a filter is more easy. You can make that yourself. Find a Low frequency choke with a resistance less than 0.2 Ohms. Should look like a small transformer. If you can not find that, most 6VAC transformers that can supply 3 - 5 amps will do, connect the secundary (the 6 volts side) in series with the radio positive supply line. Connect an electrolytic capacitor of 2200 uF, 15VDC or more from radio ground to the radio positive wire. The parts can be purchased at Radio shack or so.
This filter will filter all noise out of the 12 Volt line.
