What size should i go for? Im thinking the 1.5 are too small and was looking into getting the 1.63 but i dont want to get the wrong size. I can post a picture of one of the blown gaskets if that would help? The blown gaskets were 1.5.
I don't think those are 1406's from fel pro.
Well they don't look like my 1406's mine are blue in color and a more square port.
I would run the lock as previous mentioned I have the locks on mine and they have the allen head in the center so you can get at most of them.
I use 3 short regular bolts that I have to tighten about once a mth.
.
Auto Zone has Percy's aluminum ones, kinda pricy but they do work. The important thing is to remember to go through a procedure with them before driving the car. Warm the engine good, let it cool, tighten the bolts. Do this about 3 times before driving and I think you'll be much happier.
Your headers should have 1 5/8" tubes. I would use a GOOD paper type gasket with square ports. Re-tighten the header bolts after each heat cycle, for the first several times. Then every few cycles for a short while. Soon you will realize that checking them is unnecessary. There is no need to spend a fortune for the latest, greatest, (read that as expensive) trick gaskets or bolt systems. The standard parts will do just fine, if you keep after them for a short while.
Fel-pro's and stage 8 bolts heat cycled, re-tightened and add the locks, seem to work for me.
I swear by Stage 8 bolts, man. I was getting regular exhaust leaks on my '90's LT headers. I put a set of these on with some good gaskets, voila, no more leakage.
