IAC calibration --- question.
During the diagnostic mode when the IAC extends (85 TPI) , G Killebrew says to wait 30 seconds for it to close all the way. Does it really take that long?
You can feel the IAC motor turning or vibrating or whatever by hand. Mine seems to keep on vibrating, does not stop. Does that mean its just spinning and the pintle is not shutting? Or is it supposed to keep spinning/shaking even after it's shut?
I realize it's a stepper motor, so maybe they just keep shaking even when they're not doing anything? I really don't want to try it off the car, because the pintle will extend out and I won't be able to put it back in.

The one comment I can make here and know I'm correct is that Killebrew is a LOT better info source than any Haynes manual. I've been messing with mine lately because of other issues, I ended up replacing it but never took notice of it shaking, I just ground the aldl then go get what ever tools I'm going to need then go back and disconnect it.

My guess is that the 30 seconds contains a healthy safety factor to ensure it is really closed. I have never felt either of mine to see if they vibrate or stop vibrating. The true test would be to fire it up and see what it idles at. You could also temporally, manually, plug the air inlet to the IAC circuit to see if there is any change.
