Default Hydroboost brakes, what do ya think?

I just read an article on the Hydroboost brake system in January 2006 SUper Chevy. Sounds like a cool deal. When your vacuum gets low due to camshaft etc, brakes do get a little harder to work. So with this system, you always have good solid pressure to your brakes.
Now, will it work on our Vettes? I will email and see, as it taps off your power steering pump.
Thoughts?

Weird...I know for years they have sold vacuum cannisters just for that application but this is something new to my ears.
How does the p/s pump assist this?I havent seen the article so was just wondering.

I never thought of it for corvette use, but I had looked at them for my CJ. About the only downside I could see, is they are plumbed to have priority over steering, so if their is ever heavy use of both steering and braking at the same time(which really should never happen), the brakes will get all the fluid pressure first, and the steering gets what is left.

I could really see it for big-cam motors, or for clearance issues as the hydrobooster is much smaller than most vacuum boosters.

Also, if someone is concerned, they do have a sort of "pressure reserve" built in like vacuum boosters so you still have one good pedal squeeze left if the motor dies.

And they are also used in most HD GM and Ford gas trucks as well. Not sure of the Dodge stuff, I don't see too many of them

You'll also find them on Cadillacs, and some of the big Olds, Buicks of the '80s.

Ok, not to be a hijacker, but where can I find a link to a story about that Avatar? I haven't see air like that since Tiff test drove a 911 turbo. »keith

I have a Hydroboost for my '89 that I purchased from
Paul at Hydratech in '03.

I have not installed it, yet. My primary issues with
braking were resolved with an upgrade to C5 parts
at the front.

I have experience with factory Hydroboost setups on
GM trucks and always like the system so I was eager
to get one for my C4. Paul cautioned me that the
C4 system received the 'R' (Race) suffix because there
is some pump noise transmitted into the cabin. He
discussed prospects for damping the noise but said
at that time they had not fully been successful. I ordered
a system anyway.

I can vouch for the quality of the product and the before
and after sales support that Hydratech provides.

I believe if you search or post in the C3 Tech section,
you will find many satisfied customers there. IIRC,
the different pump design used in the C3 reduces/eliminates
the noise issue.

Here's what mine looks like:

I have mentioned the Hydroboost as an option in
several posts but I know of no C4 members who have
one.

Here is one C3 thread that mentions the unit favorably

Looking for a hydroboost brake booster...

That may just be a bad vacuum line.

Default hydro boost

why would you need hydro assist brakes? I you had a monster cam, but other than that why would you consider doing this to your vet?

wouldn't this create more parasitic drag from the power steering pump and cost you some power?

So, how are your brakes now? What brake booster are you sueing and how the heck do you steer ? Isnt it tough? Or is this drag only type stuff for you?
