The way I did it before was to spray warm soap water on it and get a razor blade and pull from the corners. Of course I also remembered doing this in warm weather by putting a garbage bag on the windows also to bring up the humidity. After you get it all off then spray, " Sticker Shocker" which is a bumper sticker removal that melts the glue behind stickers or left over residue glue. Then just wipe off. Worked for me but be a little careful when doing the back window.
the guys at the tint shops use a solution of ammonia to remove old tint. they also say to never wash your windows that have been tinted with regular glass cleaners as they all have ammonia in them.
Professionals use Goo in a spray bottle. It doesn't scratch or etch the glass and softens up the adhesive, then use a razor blade. This is what window tinters use.
I just removed my new to me 88 pimp my ride special tint from my car also. I removed the hatch and sprayed paint stripper on the tint and let it sit overnight then I used a plastic spatchula (spelling??) to hep lift it off. A PITA since it was old and brittle but it looks 100% better and didn't hurt the defroster at all.
A very good friend runs a tint shop in Central FL. He uses a mixture of Dawn dish soap, ammonia and 0000 wire wool. The wool WILL NOT hurt as long as everything is kept wet.
Also, some of the modern tints to not require special cleaning, they are resistant to the ammonia based cleaners.
I was about to run for the 3m stuff when I remembered I have a 55 galon drum of castrol super clean.
Rubber gloves and a soaked rag and ALOT of towels in the interior and sides of the car to catch drips,,, turned the glue to goo,,, paper towels and wiped right off !!!!!
Okies ,looks good !!!!!! any trouble on the side windows as it meets the weather stripping, looks like it could be hard on tint.
Only my back window was done when I bought the car.
I used clear finger nail polish around the edges of the tint and don't have any problems with tint lifting.
I went to a car show last summer and notice 2 vettes (C4) that had the rear glass tinted and the edges were lifting around the strut area. The following weekend I ran the clear finger nail polish around the edges on the rear hatch. The seal is up against it all the time.
I like looking at different colored cars with different %tints. Some it adds character too.
try spraying rubbing alcohol or denatured alcohol on it... let it sit and use a plastic razor blade thing with no pressure to pull the adhesive to a big clump and pull it off spray and wipe off. It may take several steps like this but it will take it off. At my Sign Shop we use alcohol on adhesives and if its real stubborn we have this stuff called Xlene Xlon which is real strong stuff
