I just replaced my '89's acrylic top. It now sqeeks quite abit. I'm going to apply a lubricant, possibly silicone, in hopes of resolving this. Is there an adjustment/alignment procedure that would help when I re-install it?
Thanks and Happy New Year to all.
There is an adjustment for the front top bolts (on the top, not the car). Basically make sure the car is parked on a level surface and doors closed. loosen the four bracket bolts on either side of the top's front bolt brackets to allow them to move (one on each side of each mounting bolt hole). Place the top on the car and tighten up the mounting (torx) bolts like normal. THEN tighten the 4 bracket bolts.
One thing I had happen with my replacement (Astro tops) glass top was that it started squeeking. After a close inspection, I found that the top had started separating from the frame which caused flex and the squeeking. I still need to get it fixed...
Check the tech tips section. There is a great post (No more squeaky tops) that explains it to a T and works great! I had a horrible squeaky top and after doing this I barely get a mutter at all. Good luck!
