L98 Which starter?
My car is a 1988 and I need to replace the starter. I removed the starter a couple of days ago and left it outside, now its gone. I have no idea what happened to it. I went to www.acdelco.com to look up the part#. There is a choice of two starters. I have no clue which one I need. Vin-8 Auto trans. Anyone?

I looked in my notes from a C4 class I took this summer and the only thing it said was to use the 88 and later starter as they are more reliable.

On www.acdelco.com it shows two starters for a 88. If you look at the pics they are not the same. Which style do I need?

You could check www.advanceautoparts.com to check out some other options for a replacement. They offer new to rebuilt starter by a variety of companies, including ac/delco. They are all based on your year and model of vehicle. They even have some nice pictures to see what your buying.

'88 was the first year with the gear reduction Nippondenso starter. If the one you removed look different than the usual GM starter with removable solenoid. If the solenoid wasn't obviously a separate part attached to the starter, it is the Nippondenso. The Nippondenso is the more expensive one.
