Well guys i am at my witts ends, i have a rattle that sounds like it is coming from the glove box area, i have removed the glove box, the bottom cover, the sill cover, the seat cushion, the door panel, and the speaker housing on the passenger side. Also i have checked everything i can think of from the side panels, the hood, the top and relays and other stuff bolted to the firewall. The rattle only happens when i hit something sharp and abrupt for example railroad tracks and it is beginning to **** me off. I can handle rattles and squeeks if i know where they are coming from but when i can't find them i really get annoyed. Any ideas?
I have the same thing on my 90. I thought it was the glove box as well.
I posted this a while back. No one replied, I though I was alone on this.
I did find my fuse puller tool was ratteling around on the fuse panel, but was not my noise.
Like you I took out the glove box, glued everything that could possible move and no fix!
My rattle has gotten out of control, last night it was going crazy on my late night drive home (for some reason the rattle is worse at night/cold) it starting to sound like my hood is loose, I reached out and touched it, it was moving some but I dont think it is the noise.
Also check you gill fenders to make sure they are tight. I grabbed my drivers side at work and found the bottom loose.
I have seen some aftermarket felt pads that were developed for the later C4's that fit under the back of the hood to help the rattlling noise. Could the hood be your source of rattles? The pads were put on the later C4's but will, of course, retrofit the earlier ones.
You sure its not coming from a loose bolt in the top? Maybe you lost the clips to the front brakes. Thats what happened to me and when you go over any kind of bump it sounds like the car is falling apart.
Had the exact same problem on my '93. Drove me nuts. Turned out ot be the hood rattling when I went over a bump. The rubber bumper that makes
contact with the cowl area when the hood is closed had a small indent in it from time/age. I just unscrewed it a bit more & no more rattle.
One quick way to test for this is to try to move the passenger corner of the
hood up & down with the hood closed. I'll bet you find that it's moving.
well guys after much searching and cussing and disassembling, i found my rattle it was the duct under the glove box that feeds air through the bottom of the panel, never worked and was cracked nearly in half, and was rattling around in there over bumps. So i took it off and plugged the hole that feeds off of the main duct.
Hope this helps some of the others out on their quest to hunt down the dreaded rattles and sqweeks
