I got the tires rotated today and the guy was doing my first tire and the lug nut from the hub broke off. The bolt is still into the lug nut. Do I have to buy a new hub or can I just buy the individual bolt that goes onto the hub? Can you drive with 4 lug nuts? Only one bolt broke off.
Thanks. I tried to take it off with a socket wrench but couldn't get it to fit on. So being pressed on, is the bolt hard to remove? I plan on going to Napa in the morning so I can hopefully take off for New Year's.
Use a punch or drift pin and bang it out. The knurled parralell ridges up on the collar of the stud are what holds it in and keeps it from turning, when you get it out, the new one will be "pressed-in" simply by tightening the lug nut up to it. Don't fret...until you get it out, you're in no danger. You could easily ride with only 4 lugs.
The first time I took off one of the rear tires, I noticed a broken lug bolt. Bought one at the local Murrays Auto Parts Store, punched out the old one, used the lug nut to draw in the new bolt.
Simple job. One tip. Use an older lug unt and put it on backwards or face side in to draw the bolt in.

Good luck,

Also pick up a dozen flat washers that slip over the new stud. You can stack them up and tighten the lug nut. Keep removing a few at a time and retighten. This will draw it in smoothly.
