Default Are A/C programmers really interchangeable?

I'm still working on my 90' Coupes HVAC and have came to the conclusion that the replacement AC programmer I bought on ebay was not quite 100% functional. Everything works but the temperature door and it drives itself back and forth constantly. Unfortuntely the manuals reset/relearn procedure does not work. I'm so close but yet so far away.

Anyway.. I'm trying to find another programmer.

Looking at rockauto.com This is what I found for the years 90-96

90 = AC Delco 1572896 replaces GM 16155285 $219.79
91 = AC Delco 1573392 replaces GM 16140190 $166.99
92 = AC Delco 1573394 replaces GM 16169797 $133.79
93 = AC Delco 1573394 replaces GM 16169797 $133.79
94 = AC Delco 1572093 replaces GM 16192582 $102.79
95 = AC Delco 1572093 replaces GM 16192582 $102.79
96 = AC Delco 1572209 replaces GM 16227376 $647.79

The AC Delco 15-71773 ($123.79) is specified for 90 thru 96 but seems to be for the manual AC controls (C60). I have the C68 electronic version.

I've read on this forum that the programmers are interchangeable. I'd hate to pay $219 when a $102 module is essentially the same thing.

Can anyone verify that they are interchangeable ?

Also does anyone know of a source for a used but good programmer.

Thanks... Happy new year..

I hope somebody has some good info on AC programmers. My 96's is on the fritz again, and I would love to not be looking at $600+ for another one.

The AC Delco Site may not have it right - looking at the photo, the '90 - '96 is strikingly similar to the '86 - '89. Looking at the Last Detail - (unfortunately, they don't even list a replacement for a '90), it does appear to have something to do with the Manual Air Controls. As far as I know, most of the Programmers are remans - even at the Dealer, so I don't know if used is going to save you anything. You might try www.contemporarycorvette.com for a comparison price.

Caliburn: The prices posted by '96 owners have always rung up around $600 (and that's the price at the Last Detail). On the other hand, most of the '96 faults seem to be with the vacuum hookup, not the programmer, so maybe you can fix yours without replacing it? I would, given the price, have a Dealer or someone hookup a bi-directional scanner to check it out, especially if your problem is simply that the air is coming out of the wrong ducts while the a/c engages properly and the blower is right on.

Thanks for the suggestion.... Contemporary corvette quoted me price of $125 for a used programmer with a 30 day guarentee. I may go that route unless someone knows for sure of the 90-95 units are interchangeable.

Not to beat a dead horse but I was browsing ebay this evening and noticed that a guy in Florida was selling a "new" AC delco 15-71773 AC programmer for a 90-96 vette.. This is the model that both Delco and rockauto have listed for the C60 manual HVAC systems.

Luckily he had a picture..

I noticed that this model has a small electrical connector unlike the larger ones used with the C68 electronic HVAC units.

So at least we know that the C60 and C68 programmers cannot be interchanged.

Cheers.
