Please name this part....
This part is located on the drivers side of the tranny and is a round silver thing. It has two wires comming out of it and a plug that goes to a harness; which ends up going to the back of the tranny and plugging into it.
My next question is why the heck was mine taped up and not being used? I untaped it and tried it out to see if it was damaged but seems to fit just fine. Should I keep it pluged in or tape it back up? No problems seem to be with it taped up.
Thanks for any help.

It probably is your CAGS if you have a 6 speed. If it is CAGS, leave it unplugged.

CAGS= Computer Aided Gear Selector, in other words, when enabled, it will only allow a 1-4 shift under certain conditions.
If you have the owners manual handy, it lists the conditions under which it kicks in.
By unplugging it and therefore disabling it, you can shift into any gear you want anytime you want.

CAGS allowed the Corvette (and still does) avoid gas guzzler tax.
