Was the replacement EGR an AC Delco? And if it was, are you sure they gave you the right one?
The reason I ask is that the parts store EGR valves are (according to a few sources) just a generic EGR that could possibly fit a wide range of vehicles but are not metered correctly for a specific application. I have also seen some parts store EGR's that come with several orafices to change out, depending on your vehicle....Not the way to go. Most say to get your EGR valves directly from the dealer to ensure you are getting the right item for the vehicle.
It was from Advance GP Sorenson.I hear ya on using OEM and made myself a promise if it was not easy to swap out to only use OEM.This did not fall into that catagory. But I have had Bosch O2's bad out of the box too. I guess I have come to expect failures from aftermarket parts .I suspect your observation is true.
Oh and you were correct Morely A&B will turn on the relays it is called diagnostic mode.Wonder why the FSM does not just say put it in diagnostic mode instead of mentioning something that is not referenced anywhere in the book."ground the test terminal" my eye.

What a great learning tool. I enjoy this type of dialogue, suggestions, diagnostics & finally a solution that corrects the problem. You guys are the greatest. Where else is this possible
Rench on !!!
I went to Advance yesterday with their old EGR in hand. The pic they show on their website and at the store shows one that looks exactly the same as my OEM.I told them this and also mentioned I had to change the connector boot to fit it as the nipple was a little smaller.
They ordered in the 3 that are in the area and I went down there this morning. The FSM mentions that the EGR is a "N" type(negative back pressure) and should be marked. The one I orginally bought had no readable letter on it.
Well believe it or not only one of the 3 was the right one with a "N" after the part #.That one also had the right nipple size on it but the other 2 were smaller and had a "M" after the part number. After looking closer at the one I had in I could make out a faint"M".
All the same part# but different so for anyone else in my boat make sure it is the right one if you get it from Advance. It does not look like the OEM either, the vacuum nipple is in the center and it is silver.
Put it in the car and all is well. What a difference the intake/EGR made.It must have been marginal for some time but boy does it pull now

Gosh after all that. Well that is great news to hear. All is well...
Yeah having just did my intake last weekend I noticed a markable difference in the smoothness of the engine. I believe I had some port leaks on the gasket as well.
Glad you finally got it figured out and were able to get the right part. Did Advance own up to giving you the wrong one and not charge for the right one?

It was an exchange. As always the guy was clueless as I explained that they were different and why.I told him he better try and do something so someone else doesn't have the same problem.

And thanks to you too.It was your thread that gave me the motivation to do it.Gaskets have been sitting in the garage since last spring.
