I noticed a few more oil drops on the floor than normal. I just got the transmission oil replaced so I went back to the place where I got it done. The guy took me under the car and showed me oil on the oil pan and said that my seals were most likely gone. It sounds reasonable considering the age and miles on the clock but I thought I'd check with the experts. My 93 LT1 has about 145,000 miles on it and I drive her every day about 100 miles. How much am I in for to replace the seals?
Before you jump in both feet, have them clean the pan off and remove each bolt put some locktite on them and re-torque. I went through this with my dealer, had the filter, fluid and gasket changed. Had to take it back four times as it kept leaking because the bolts won't stay torqued. It was the first time it had been off since new. So after the fourth time they put locktite on them and they've been fine ever since.
Most likely will be the seal are bad. This are very commom for LT1 car, the seal cost like $5 and the labor that is hurt. The water pump gotta coming out, the balancer and gotta coming out and the balancer hub gotta come out. That is a lot of work to that job. Dealer probably will nail you for 6+ labor hour for this job.
took the motor out and replaced every seal.. Head, oil pan, timing, intake etc. I've enjoyed it. I got to add some performance mods, clean the engine and bay and learn alot.
