Default Valve Spring question

anyone know the maximum lift on the stock 89 L98 Springs?? im looking at a small cam but the specs are 213/219 duration @ .050 .493"/.502" with 1.6 rocker ... but bearing in mind im on stock rockers aswell not 1.6s... would that fit comfortably? Lingenfelter Cam

Mt thinking is that since your car is an 89 and IF it still has the stock valve springs, even if they could handle the additional valve lift, they should be replaced.

By now they should be getting pretty tired and I don't believe you'll be able to get the full benefits of the new cam with springs that won't hold up at the higher RPM levels.

Just my thoughts.

IMHO, you need better springs than the stock, new or sacked. Don't the LT4 springs, retainers and cups fit the L98 heads?

Don't even THINK about re-using those springs. The stockers may survive for a while with those lifts, but they won't perform well and you're asking to break one with the resultant damaging of parts that happens when valves bump into pistons and whatnot.

If you're spending the money for a new cam, seals, fluids, etc - then "spring" for another hundred bucks and get new springs that are applicable for the lifts and RPMs you're going to spin. Call a reputable cam company for their advice.
