87 coolant sensors
which coolant sensor turns on the main and which turns on the Aux fan.
All of a sudden and main fan only comes on when I install the code reader, coolant temp hit 235 and the main still never came on so I cut the engine off

More info needed , not clear what your problem is.
Main fan controlled by the computer from input from the sensor at front of the manifold under the TB, will turn on when you jumper the ALDL to read codes.Jumper A +B terminals and the fan should run
Aux fan controlled by sensor between plugs 1 +3 driver side head.
Short thatwire (Green /Blk ?) to earth and the aux fan should run.

Did the temp get that high or was that just indicated

Sounds like the culprit could be the sensor on front of intake or the wiring invoved.
