That !@#$%^&* switch is pretty flimsy and they have the habit of disintegrating. They are easy to remove and you can buy one for about $14 from Mouser Electronics (no minimum order) www.mouser.com their stock number 506 MPA 106F.
This is the switch for my 87 and I am pretty sure it is the same for 88's.

Have you TESTED the switch? You need to use an ohmmeter and test the switch before buying one. It is very simple to get to and very simple to test.

You can get a replacement switch at most any electronics parts store. You can probably even get one at Radio Shack.

Good luck,
