the only remote location I can think of would be the storage bin areas just behind the seats - and that would probably require a little cutting and fab work to make it fit and look good. You'd also probably need an opima battery because it's a little smaller (I think).
And then... there's running all that cable. Ack. FWIW I would probably run the cables through the transmission tunnel and then into the storage bin from underneath - attaching them securely to the underside of the tunnel with a half-dozen or more brackets. That would proably be the easiest way.
what's your reasoning for relocating it? Need the space for something?

Probably for the reasons as I'm going to, better weight distribution for handling and better weight transfer for traction. I'm going to put it back in the RR compartment that you mentioned. Still figuring out the best ways to do everything but I know it's do-able.
I recall a post from years back where someone had a setup with the battery (Gel filled) on it's side in a swing down bracket where the spare used to be.

Yes, I've heard of that too. I would put it there but don't want to lose the capability of carrying a spare on long trips.
Behind the rear axle will actually take weight off of the front tires. I've seen pictures of that, but unless it is a purpose built drag car, it's hard to beat the right rear storage compartment. There is plenty of room in there for the stock battery, and maybe one larger. I had (have?) a friend without a lot of mechanical moxie, (back then) do his own. Run the battery cable straight to the starter, and it probably won't be any longer than the stock cable. It ought to be duck soup if you're not worried about the NHRA mandated shut off.
You don't need the battery box. Just make sure the battery compartment is sealed from the cabin and vented. Also make sure your hold downs conform. From there it isn't much farther to the back of the car to mount the shut off switch.
