Pulled apart the GS and found another Centerforce Dual friction worn. The clutch like the last one had one season of racing. (about 50-60 1/4 runs, 4 autox, a little road racing)
It is a single mass setup with a billit flywheel. The PP looks fine and since they are all the same made by Valao I guess I need a new disk. Any sugestions? Car has a 396 with power output in signature.
I'm not putting in a Street Twin either.
Thanks,

3 hour job, no biggie. The clutch is cheaper than new rears. If I could get one to last 2 full seasons I'd be happy.

Did you ever try a Mcleod dual friction? It's organic on one side, kevlar on the other.

I put over 100 drag passes on mine and it wasn't completely worn out. What I thought was a throwout bearing turned out to be my clutch fork contacting the pressure plate!

Flippin dual frictions...urghh I think I smelled clutch the first time I was out with my 400+rwtq 383 and 315 R compounds autocrossing.

Anyway, I think I will go with a SPEC 3 or 3+ next. The 3 is pretty similar to the CTF in price but should have more holding power and hopefully more durability.

At least the dual friction made it to the track. Every SPEC I've ever seen has smoked itself pulling out of the shop.

FWIW I'm running a RAM metallic now and it seems to be alright. I haven't thrashed it at the track so I can't say how well it would hold up for that.

There are a few people out there who swear by SPEC, but I'm certainly not one of them. I've seen several cases where they just plain sucked and have seen personally two cases of them sending the wrong parts, and heard of several more on the forum. In short I've seen way more negative press than I have positive so I stay away from them.

When I had to replace mine I was going to go with anything but SPEC. Mcleod didn't list the clutch I had anymore, which is what I really wanted, I didn't want stock, and I didn't want Centerforce, so that pretty well left RAM. So far so good, but like I said I haven't really thrashed it.

Rich, I was just reading over at the pro-stock sight some guys with 5 speeds talking about things in their setups. I will try to see if they can offer some advice on good clutches for you. These guys beat the ever-lovin crap out of their stuff without incident.

However the downside may be rear end problems.

Also, not to throw things off course here, but what;s the scoop with Numidia? Is it going to be open this year? You guys getting together there?

Jessie not sure about Numedia yet, allthough they are trying to get a Vette day going at Beaver.

Looking more at the pp it was overheated and the metal is pealing so looks like a clutch kit is needed. I went through this last year and thought about spec, Ram, Mcleod .... Centerforce said their's would hold up 600hp so I went with another. No more from them.
