Is anyone runnig the Eagle I beam rod in a motor making over 500HP? Or has anyone used these rods with a supercharger?
If you could let me know what you think of them it would be appreciated.
Thanks, Ray
I run them in my LT4 with diamond pistons and cola crank, afr 220 heads,t&d shaft rockers ,but I blow nitrous through it .It does not make 500 hp on it's own.
My engine builder (builds big Hp endurance boat motors) recommended Scat over Eagle stating they have a forging line down the beam that acts as a stress riser and he has had them split lengthways

That is interesting, I have never heard of a rod spliting down the middle. Did he say what kind of horse the motor was putting out?
Thanks

Could that be ground down smooth when balancing is done?
Aren't Scat made in China?
I have no problems with the rods ,but you do have more clearence at the crank journal then most rods.
Looks kinda of scarry put they seem to hold.Side to side clearence is more.I would like to use howard alum rods but to lazy to resize the rods every 50 runs.
YOu do have to get the better *rod bolts* from arp not the usual ones everyone uses ,I forget the part number ,if you talk to them at arp they will fix you up.
Thank you all for the replies. I should have done it right the first time but I was on a budget. Maybe I should just forget the idea of forced induction.

you dont have to forget the idea. just make a plan and slowly get the right parts. when you have the right parts then put the engine together. just take your time, when you rush you also get problems. remember rome wasnt built in a day. when done you will be a happy camper.
regards

I built a 406 with Eagle rods in 2000 and made a ton of passes on the motor. I sold the car in 2002 and the guy has been bracket racing it since. The short block has not been apart - so that's 5 racing years, plus some street miles, on a set.
We have a friend making over 500 horsepower with them on the engine and smacking them with another 150 horsepower of nitrous and having no issues at all. His RPM range is between 3000 and 6000 rpm and he does have the better bolts and a good set of SRP pistons. 500 Horsepower is a marketing ploy to get you to upgrade into the H-Beams which isn't a bad idea if you plan to pound the engine long term. The rods will survive over 500 horsepower. Remember, the rod strength is not just based on just horsepower but also on the RPM and how much weight you are spinning so if you have a fairly light piston that can prove to be a plus for you.

Thats some good HP, did he have it dynoed? I am running between 3000 and 6200RPM's. My car is 3400lb. with me in it and I would like to install a supercharger with about 8bl. of boost, although they say at procharger that the intercooler is only good for a maximum of 550HP.
I have a buddy that said he has heard of people running the rods in mopars and breaking them. But it could be that he just doesn't want to get beat any worst than he already is. LOL
