I've searched through the archive to no avail so I'll ask again. I've read somewhere that i can put the same size tire on all corners of my 96. Is there a big advantage to this other than being able to rotate them? Will I rub in the front? I'm running stock 17x9.5" rims. Thanks guys
Luke at tirerack answered that specific question a few months ago for me. He said, in answer to my question re my all 4 9.5" wheels that 275-40 will be fine. A few have said that 285-40 will also work. I'm likely to go either the 275 or standard route (255-45 front, 285-40 rear).
opps, I'm running 8.5's in the front and 9.5's in the rear.
Putting 275s up front will probably reduce understeer a little bit. However, you really need 9" wide wheels to run 275/40/17 tires. Some guys have put 275s on the 17x8.5" wheels, but I don't recommend it. Get yourself another set of 17x9.5" sawblade wheels, which are relatively cheap, if you want to run the same size all around.
I just switched from 17 x 8.5" in the front to 17 x 9.5" in the front. I also went to 17 x 11" in the rear. No clearance problems. I was tempted to stick with the 9.5" width all the way around for the rotational reasons too, but I always seem to encounter a road hazard on some tire before significant wear occurs. Then I end up replacing both fronts, or both rears...
