Is there anyway of determining the stall or type of torque converter by looking at it? ID#'s, Markings, spline counts, etc...

If you know who made it you should be able to call them and they will id it for you, if it's used you should know that it can be balloned inside and what it was new may not be what it is now. Also, stall is a realitive term, there are a lot of factors that go into what it will really stall in your car.

Transstar has a torque converter catalog that shows the complete breakdown of the torque converter ratings, friction material(lock up) etc. This info only covers oem converters. Not anything aftermarket.
