The crank sensor is part of the OBDII electronics, it is certainly not required to run because earlier LT1's did have it. As to how easy it is to turn that off you'd have to talk to somebody like Alvin, I'm afraid I don't know, I've never messed with it.

As for the timing cover, yes just weld it up, fill it with JB weld, whatever. If you want to make it look nice you can fill sand it off, polish it down, and or paint / powder coat it.

To fill my WP drive hole i had a friend of mine mill down a peice of aluminum to make a plug, and siliconed the plug in the hole. Really easy to do and it looks like it was made that way now.

The crank sesnor is mainly used to report misfire trouble codes, if you have LT1 Edit then all you need to do is turn off the codes that deal with misfires. Your car will run perfectly fine with or without the codes disabled, but yo'll likely have the SES light lite up...and well, I find that annoying.

No joke. I find it amazing what people are willing to put up with. I don't know how many times I've looked at a modded car that is perfect in every way but it has a damn SES code. Every time I mention it I get the canned response of "oh it's not important, runs fine."

1. It's annoying as hell to see that light all the time
2. WTF are you going to do if it sets an important code?

Damn straight! I feel like a tool when I have to tell people...oh it's not really a problem, I just need to take 5 minutes of my time to "fix it". If I put that much work into something I don't want to have to make excuses about it!

Agreed. I take some amount of pride in the fact that I can get in my car, turn the key and drive it without having to do ANYTHING different than when it was stock, yet I make over 100 more RWHP. If there's a SES light it means something important.

As already stated, you want the Cloyes 9-3145, the HD Meziere pump and I'm wondering, why are you pulling the heads? It's not necessary for a cam change, do you have another reason? I didn't need different bolts for the cam retainer w/ the DR and have had the engine down since then. There was no interference, on mine anyway. I used a half dollar and JB Weld to plug the W/P drive hole. A Felpro pan gasket should be under $30, the front cover set, w/ seals should be under $20 and their intake gaskets are pretty reasonable and good too, I've even reused them. If you do pull the heads, you might as well use Impala gaskets and pick up nearly half a point of free compression. Superior Chevy has a good deal on them. You won't need a bigger alternator, the Meziere only pulls 6-8 amps if I remember right. Your 140 amp stocker should be fine. I've been running all of this stuff for over 20K miles now with no problems. If you need to plug your crank sensor hole, a 3/4" core plug should do the trick. I'm not sure if you may not need a '95 crank hub if you eliminate the sensor ring. Maybe a modified '96 owner will check in on that. Good luck my friend, you'll love the Hotcam.

I almost forgot, I'm not familiar with the CC springs and retainers you're using but some retainers can cause a reduction in available installed height capability. You can get the spring seats cut down if needed while the heads are off. Make sure and check that. I guess that's why you're pulling the heads. Not much more work from where you'll be at and it makes spring swapping much easier.

Stock installed height is 1.78" for an LT1. These springs may have a different recommendation.
