instrument cluster problem
having my instrument cluster goes intermittent for 30-45 seconds and then works normal, when intermittent it goes int a lost in space kinda mode the whole cluster segments and flashes weirdly any ideas / stuck scratching my head p.s 1986 model

No car year info provided, but I'd probably make the same suggestion.
There's gotta be a main plug that connects to the back of your cluster. Remove the cluster, unplug the connector, clean contacts, check for lose wires, and replace. (Do not retighten until a few days passes).
I suspect you're losing contact through this connector which is causing your entire display to flake out.
