I want to replace my radiator and heater core hoses on a '96 LT4 with Gates brand. I found only the lower hose at a local auto parts place. I wondered if anyone knew where I could buy the heater hoses. They look to be preformed hoses so I'd rather not go back with stuff that is not preformed for the car.
I've been smelling radiator water lately after the car is warmed up and can't see a leak anywhere. since the car already has 50K miles on it with the original hoses I thought I'd just replace the hoses and coolant and go from there. OEM hoses and belts don't last very long in my experience.
I think Gate, Dayco, Goodyear don't list too many heater hose asmb. My experience has been that after market hose don't fit as nicely as the dealer part. In my experience I have never replace any heater hose asmb w/ aftermarket part easily.
Also GM or Ford or Chrylser or Toyota don't make their hoses. they all buy it from someone. as you have notice your OE hose lasted 50K already. so It will last just as long as any OE aftermarket hose. Not including some highperformance hoses.
As for your problem. pressure test your system. if you can't see leak check the water level to make sure it hasn't gone down any. aslo look for not just fresh moisture, but dried watermarks.
If your lookin' for other then factory hoses you could allways check out LPE for a set of Samco silicon hoses for your year. They come in all different colors and will last longer then the factory hoses and are a factory fit. Hope this helps! ( PS--they aint cheap though! )
