Default "damper" in fuel return line

hi

im just swapping my engine for a 396, and noticed the following...

theres a little disc shaped "damper" in the fuel RETURN line...

dont makes much sense to me, i suspected the "damper" in the fuel FEED line...

i checked twice, traced the lines, and the Fuel filter is NOT in the line with the "Damper"

I agree the damper should be in the inlet line... the damper unless you swapped out you in-tank fuel pump would already have the damper insalled..

Hope this helps,

Mo

i will install a racetronix pump soon....but, what is the thing with the damper? the line that runs from the fuel filter and the return line looks properly installed, not messed up. aso...

looks very stock to me, i cannot understand why the damper is in the wrong line....

regards

It's where it's supposed to be - that is the factory solution to a rattle in the fuel return line when cold. It was a recall/campaign for early C-4's and a factory install after. I'm not certain of the years so I won't guess. It is, in fact, supposed to be in the return line. I suppose it Might be a flow restriction, but I don't know for certain. If it was all it would do is cause the pressure at the rails to be to High...

My buddy's 86 has such a mod, just forward of the fuel filter, but my 86 doesn't. We both have early models - originally came with iron heads.

Maybe the original owner of my car never took it in for the recall.
