Default Disturbing find

I have noticed for some time when the Vette is idling in the garage it was getting static on the TV.Obviously it pointed to ignition system.I have gone over the wires twice even pulled the tensioner to check that side of the opti and made sure they were on.My only mistake turns out was not to pull them and re install.

I picked up a tank of bad gas and needed a reason for a long cruise to run it out.I have read some threads about the improvement after changing the coil I thought I would head down to Summit Racing and pick up a new MSD Blaster and try it out.

So I get home start looking over the job.I hate these old connector clips they make me nervous and i remove them without incidence. When I removed the coil wire white powder went everywhere
The cap and coil plug were coated like a 10 year old battery terminal
I got the electric cleaner out did the boot up and looked at the coil.It had major damage on the plug where the arcing was occuring it vaporized large holes in it.

After putting the MSD coil in I di electric greased(my mistake the first time) the cap and tried to put it on.It would not snap on.HMMM the real problem now.It was too big from the start and needed squeezed probably was like that when I put it on the first time.

So all is well now new coil works great, TV static is gone ,another spot that my previously leaking intake drenched is clean. All in all a good sunday.

Good find and thanks for letting everyone know. The longer we work on these cars or any vehicles, the more we learn. I've been a mechanic forever and the more I learn, the more I realize I don't know. No matter how long we do this, we'll never know it all. That's one of the things that makes the forum so great, others sharing such experiences for the benefit of all.
