Default Help, help, help, please!!!

Hello, it is hard to explain my problem in english, but I will try cause am completely lost!!!

I have a 1988 C4 Vette and here, in Spain, we must pass some kind of technical inspection every year for security reasons. One of the steps in this overall check is that the frame code in the low part of the windshield matches with some kind of other frame (track) that must be somewere in the chassis of the car, when you open the hood.

In my Corvette there is a frame code under the hood, carved in a little metalic plate, but the technicians say that there must be some other kind of a track in the chassis and they can not find it.

I am affraid that I will not be able to use my car again!!! So my question is simple: where the hell is this track number in the chassis? Is it the metallic plate under the hood and there is not other one?

Please, help me, because here in spain I can not drive without that inspection passed!!!

Thank you very much for your cooperation.

If you remove the plastic panels behind the drivers side front wheel, you will see it stamped in the frame rail.

Hello my friend. So this chassis number is near the front drivers side wheel (front left)... but I do not understand very well what plastic panels are you talking about and what is the frame rail... sorry, but I am from Spain, can you be a little more concrete?

Thank you very much!

If you look behind the drivers front wheel(with hood up) you will see some plastic panels that hide the chassis. The frame rail is the main piece of metal that runs the length of the car. The piece I am referring to Has the top of the shock absorber attached to it.

??? Dear ittlfly, thank you very much for your efforts, but your translations is just something like "the second number that you are searching for is upon the body". Sorry, but that does not help me very much... maybe in english?

Thanks!

Thanks! I have just emailed Nico, I hope he will answer me! By the way, do you know where exactly this chassis number is? I do not remember any plastic cover near the left front wheel...

Again, thanks!

So, if I understand well, behind the front left wheel there is a metallic bar parallel to the car lenght that has the shock absorber attached to it. Then, on the top of this bar, there must be the code...

It is correct? Thanks!

I did respond to your Email, so perhaps that helps. But my spanish is also bad, I have to learn it in the bar in an Andaluz environment. Even Spanish people don´t understand much of it.

I am afraid the hidden VIN number does not help here in Spain. It is not complete, only the last 9 digits are there and the check digit is different!! So it confuses the people here even more.
Standard procedure is that the VIN number has to be stamped into the chassis left front on top of the frame, next to the radiator. Is normally done at import in Europe. The stamping here in Spain is done by the ITV, the test institute in Spain. I had an old military landrover and they could not read it well. So stamped it in again.
Good luck
Nico

I don't know exactly where that frame number is stamped. I have never had the occasion to look for it. I believe that the "plastic cover near the left front wheel" is the inner wheel well or inner fender panel. Did you click on the link in my previous post, with the thread involving Nico's ordeal?

When I was stationed in Germany (several times), a bottle of Jack Daniels would go a long way in clearing up this kind of stuff.
