Default computer learning

It is great to see some of the technical info that this group has to offer, I know many people appreciate it. I have been looking thru my factory manuals to try and solve a couple of questions that occurred after removing my intake manifold when I detailed the engine compartment. Things went back together well, and with the exception of one TB hose that leaked (I replaced all the engine compartment hoses and wrapped them with braided stainless) everything seemed good. On start up there are two minor issues - one the idle, the other with the a/c compressor. The idle is running a little high. The entire TB was removed, cleaned and polished, with the original TPS reinstalled. Will the computer go thru a learning process and adjust the idle rpm, or do I need to access the ecm and put it into a learning mode?

The second issue is that the a/c compressor, even in cold weather, keeps cycling on and off, with the lines and accumulator icing up. Reading the manual, I wondered if I cycle it thru the testing stages of max a/c, power down, etc. if the ECM will reset itself?

I haven't made the leap to buying a diagnostic machine yet, I am wondering if I should. I don't have a whole lot of other engine mods on my wish list, it would be used mostly for routine maintenance, if it is worth the expense. What would you guys suggest?

Thanks for the input.

You should be able to put the HVAC in manual by turning on the vents or floor heater and the AC should stay off.
