Hi to all, fixed the check engine light a couple weeks ago, just got around to doing a code check it came up with code 42 the car is an 85 my Haynes cheapo manual says est circuit, could this code be a result of setting the timing and disconnecting the est wire? What should I check first? The check engine light has never came on except the normal second at start up.Also no tack it reads 00 could this be related, what about ingition mod or ecm how do I check? Thanks for any help Dave.
If you recently set your timing and didn't disconnect the battery to clear the code 42 that sets when you had the EST wire disconnected, then yes, that is probably where the code came from.
The tach reading 0 could be unrelated and I doubt it is the ECM because if the ECM doesn't see a refrence pulse from the ignition module, it won't fire the injectors.
Make sure the tach wire is cinnected to the distributor cap...after that you'd need a wiring diagram to find where the tach wire goes and check it for an open (with an ohm meter).
