My 85 corvette when is park and put in drives JERKS (jumps) like it is going to take off for a brief half a second. Why is that? Lube guy mentioned transmission mounts???
Problem 2... When taking foot off break lighly you hear a dull griding noise. when I had break fluid change the mech said my BEARINGS in the rear were bad, Can this be true?
3rd problem...When I put my foot to the pedal quarter, half way it will back fire and smoke slightly. Does not happen in nuetral or in drive. Had spark plugs change and injectors cleaned. ANY ANSWERS from CF before I take it in to a mech.
thx
1st maybee the tranny's tired..takes a couple seconds to enguage, but could verywell be a tranny. mount. there cheep from the local parts place and you could do yourself.
2 bearrings can be checked uot could be posible. sounds to me maybee rusty rotors? my car does that. but i don car my rotors are shot
3 tuning issue could fix. depending on miles can be worn valve trane
I cant tell the right answer cuz im not there just pointers. If you buy an old vette you should be machanically inclined to do the work-mods your self or its verry costly. unless its 100% stock and well taken care of and then you can par to maintain.
My 85' cost my 9K and i put about3k into restore parts with me installing them. Another 8 into engine that i redid myself.
Good luck its a hobbe
Im not bad at spelling and dont spell check internet posts to help people out of jam's or give adivice because, they and I can make it out fine as is.
Are you an english teacher or SUMPTIN

Have him replace the trans mount. When he hands you the bill, tell him to wait, that redfast is going to pay it. casinnomgr, I don't blame YOU, but both the lube tech, who just came out from under your car, and redfast should KNOW that C4s don't have transmission mounts. That is the second time this week.

OKAY
I am not mech smart. I am a female and I am AM learning so cut me some slack! My husband is casinomgr, he signed me up...bought the corvette from his friend. 55K miles, all original. Since I have been on CF iI have learned to do some engine work myself thanks to all the advice out there. Changed the 02 sensor, pulled out computer under dash and change a chip (back to original one) and changed my spark plugs too. So I am learning. I listen to what what people say and try to correct the problem without bringing it to a shop. THX ALL

The pre 87 transmissions (automatic) did not have the aux valve body. This item was added to cushion the shock when it is put in gear. This is normal to a point. If it is much worse than it was last week or last month, Something may be broken or worn internally. Keep your eye on it if it gets worse. 87 and later models were much improved. Have a look at the tailhousing on the trans. At the point where the c beam attaches. Tail housings have been known to crack occasionally. Usually from overtightening c beam bolts. Likely not your problem, but something to quickly check.
sorry...but b&m must be f-up's if they make a transmission mount for our cars then and about 14 other sites must be too if there selling them.
But i do have the manny. 4+3 so maybee the 700R4's have some sort of different mount.

I have 10 in stock and can beat that price. Free shipping too
Not saying that i know 100% about automatic's but hears another person that must agree that there is a transmision mount there on an 85' not to be a DIK but i wont pay that bill. that cfi-efi said id pay...................

I am somewhat aware of your situation. That is why I said, as you quoted me as saying, "casinnomgr, I don't blame YOU, but both...,"

So that means that you DO know 100% about the C4 manual transmissions? Who is, "hears another person"? I don't know how they can charge you for installing a nonexistent part. By the way, Mr. 100%, the automatic and the manual, C4s all take the same trans mount...NONE.
After you buy the mount in your link, or cheaper yet, Pete K's, I want to talk to you about a bridge I have for sale.
Pete K.,
If you run low give me a shout, I have an endless supply.

I was the first one. So what's your point? I followed up in that thread and tried my best to explain. You come straight to the point and no BS between the lines, that's good. I think
sorry buddy c-beam. i was thinking about the comarro-firebirds there was a problem with the end craking i think to remember. I searched the mount and came up with a ton and pette agread with the mount so i was thinking of something else.
and no beef cfi-efi but you have alot of usefull info on hear but i think i remember why i havent loged on to this site for a year or so alot of you guy's are know it alls and dicks. Give people a break we work 10-12 hours a day and i havent been on anyother site that jumps on peoples mistakes as much as this one does.
My origanall post states that im giving pointers. not facts.
my second was i think an honest mistake because everyone is selling them.
Then Pette agreed with me about the mounts being for sale?
So i thought there was a trany. mount for our cars.
Sorry origanall poster about me saying what i did.
I'm gonna chime in here if you guys don't mind. I have the 84 automatic. My car is in the air right now and I've been working on it all week. If I have a transmission mount can one of you guys tell me exactly where it is? Because what I see from underneath is an engine on one side and the drive shaft on the other. Where is the mount that your speaking of?
Thanks pete k for clearing this up. Thought I was losing my mind for a min. You had mentioned in a post yesterday about where to find the number on the transmission in order to tell if it was produced early or not. Which side of the tranny is that plate on? I looked earlier and didn't see it.
#1 is normal to a degree. If you feel it is trying to rip itself out of the car, have the U joints checked (or check them yourself). You could also have someone look at the engine as you put it in gear and see if the engine jumps to the side a lit (don't run them over!). If it does jump a lot, it may be bad engine mounts.
#2....worn brake pads maybe. I don't think bad bearings would only make noise with light brake pressure...but worn pads would.
#3 you said
When I put my foot to the pedal quarter, half way it will back fire and smoke slightly. Does not happen in nuetral or in drive.
If it doesn't happen in neutral or in drive...when is it happening?
Things to check for the backfiring..timing, vacuum leak(s).
