Default Heated O2 sensors rule!

I've had quite a bit of mods done in the last couple of years - EM longtubes, B&B, Hotcam, ported heads and intake, new injectors, plugs, tranny, rearend gears, etc. but never could get it running quite right and gas mileage was about 12.5 mpg. Last week had Trevor and Joe at EM install heated O2 sensors (it's a '93) and voila! Runs great. No stumbling, no going into open loop at stoplights, gas mileage went up to 15 mpg. As it has been suggested before, if you go with coated LT headers, go with heated O2 sensors. Caspers Electronics sells a retro kit for $89.95/each.

I have a hotcam'd LT header (TPIS longtubes) 93 LT1 with Ed Wright programming.

After the cam, gas mileage went down the toliet and it reeks of raw fuel at idle making it difficult to breathe when aroudn the car.

(I should mention performance has been excellent).

I thought maybe my old O2's werent getting hot enough in the coated LT headers (I have no cats on my setup either, none of that emissions B$), so I installed heated O2's.

The heater on the O2's works great, but no dice. Same problem as before.

Ive heard Ed Wright programming is less than satisfactory and I hope to get a 'pcmforless' tune when they come to my area in april .

Ive noticed a lot of these gas mileage, raw fuel smell problem (I know that wasnt your problem) seem to happen on 93's. Coincidence?

I had the raw fuel smell too. People would get high when I idled at a bus stop. Hope that my cats aren't toast.

Can I use an O2 from a ZR-1 (like this one)?

I see no reason why not. 3 wire sensors contain 2 white wires. 1 goes to power, the other to groun. The black is the ecm reference. You can use a 3 prong weather pack and make a factory type harness, or cut and butt connect or solder it in. I recommend the weather pack route.

Hey! Nice to hear your car is all set!! I know it's been a long time coming. Are you still planning on going to the dyano day at Extreme on the 11th? Hopefully I'll see you there!

Same exact thing here....Alvin @ PCM-for-less sent me a piggyback chip and in less than a week it was at my door. Now, the smell is gone, the fuel economy went up 3-4mpg on the computer and it runs smooth from start-up through operating temp. Basically, everything he said it would do

Hey, Jay. Yes, I plan on being there. I need to see the air-fuel ratios and I have better have gained at least 50 rwhp for all of the money I spent.

Do you have a baseline dyno to compare it to or are you going with the normal 270 (+/-) base numbers? I haven't ridden in your car, but Trevor seems to like it so there has to be some good power there!

Before the rebuild, my best was 280 rwhp, I can't remember the torque off hand.

Congrats on the .02 fix. What's the deal @ Xtreme? Isn't like $50 for a couple pulls. If so, I'm definitely in...

Let me know pls.

Yep it's the 11th, I think it's supposed to start pretty early so I'll probably show up around 10am...and yes it's $50 for two pulls with AFR from what I heard. They are going to be doing the runs for as long as they need to into the afternoon so it should be an interesting time!
