Default L98 intake

I am considering replacing the plenum, runners, and manifold on my 89vert. I have already cleaned up the exhaust side with TPIS lt headers, high-flo cat, and Borla exhaust. Now I want to free up the intake side. I'm trying to find out who's got the best quality product (best fit, reliability, etc.) on the market before buying. Your opinions are appreciated.

*sigh*

Between here and www.thirdgen.org this question is asked every 15 minutes.

Lots of info there.

The basics are as follows:

There is replacing the base and runners. This maybe your best option since you are mildly modded. Expect to see upper RPM power gains, a slight loss of low end torque, but don't expect much above 4800 RPM's.

The Super Ram. Probably the best choice for mildly modded engines. Good compromise between low end and high end. Probably about as good as it's gonna get for a long tube runner set-up.

The Mini-ram. A short runner set-up similar to the LT1 intake. Excellent high RPM capabilities, but you'll need some more mods to really make use of it.

The LT1 intake is a low cost option. It resembles the mini-ram but must have custom machine work done to make it applicable to the L98.

All should have similar fit/reliability. The Super Ram has 3 pieces, so there is a greater possibility of it leaking, but that should be a non-issue if installed properly. Replacing the base and runners has been difficult for a couple people. Apparently some of TPIS's stuff doesn't fit properly without some modifications. Search around, and you'll come up with all kinds of info.

These are just my opinions, others will vary. Good luck!

Do a search for L98 intake mods here on the board.

I recently posted a before and after dyno comparison of my findings on my intake mods. Others have also done so here. Search on TPIS, accel, super ram, mini ram etc. You should find a decent amount of real world data to help you make an informed decision.

Are you saying that the MiniRam is basically an LT1 intake for L98s? On a stock L98, would it act like an LT1 with the same ECM calibration as a factory LT1 motor?

1. Yes it is.
2. Basically, with the right tune. Head (portsize) difference is not too much and cam profiles are very close.

Youll just need to start doing the same mods as LT1 guys do: gears, TC, hotcam, etc.

How about the TPIS Big Mouth intake large tube runners and a ported plenum with a 52 mm Throttle body if it's not modded too much. Pipe

Well, I wanted to use a MiniRam on a 388 I'm having built as we speak. Got some Dart Iron Eagles 200 cc heads I'm gonna use too. I dunno how much on top I'll be getting or if it is worth its $1400 if I'll be getting an LT4 Hotcam kit for this motor. Builder told me I don't need to change my gears, but I'd need a 3200 lock up stall converter on it. The goal is 400 rwhp, 400 ft-lbs of torque in conservative <5500 rpm revs.

Is it possible that the MiniRam on this setup could be good for this goal as the builder says?
