Default '96 Valve Cover Gaskets

undefined
I'm thinking of replacing the gaskets on my leaking valve covers. I read through the shop manual and it seems pretty straight forward. Can anybody give me a heads-up on possible trouble spots to lookout for? Also, a Torks 45 wrench seems a little loose in the cover bolts. Is that normal or do I have the wrong tool?
Thanks

should be straight forward. only 4 bolts per side. i always dab alittle silicone in the corners and space out some 3ins across the straight areas. just alittle to keep in place while upside down. sometimes youll have some problems getting inbetween the rockers, thats where the silicone comes into play. im not sure on yours but, you might have to loosen up a braket or two so you can slide the valve cover passed it. anyways good luck. im sure you are alot smarter than me, so it should be very easy for you. dont sweat it. good health. hddm3

Install the gaskets dry, silicone is not needed.

The gaskets will stay in the valve cover channel just fine and will seal without issue.

The driver's side vavlve cover is a bit of a pain to get off because of the alternator. You can approach it one of two ways....
- Remove the alternator entirely (best way) or
- Remove the bolt that secures the bracket to the back of the alternator, remove the outboard alternator bolt (that secures it to the aluminum accessory bracket) and loosen the other bolt that secures the alternator to the bracket. Wrap a big screw driver in a towel (to prevent marring) and rotate the alternator upwards. With the alternator rotated out of the way, remove the valve cover.

Not to be a smart a$$, but if the T45 seems loose, try the next size. If it's too big then the T45 is the one to use.
