For a hand-held scanner I really like the Auto-XRay products, they do a very good job and give you just about every parameter. I have an Actron scanner, and it's adequate, but the Auto XRay gives more information and has a back-lit display so it can be used at night.

I just got and used AUTOTAP and can tell you that imo its the best out there. You need a laptop but this baby will give you a test on over 150 items along with diagnostic and reseting codes..check out their website...Pro Scan is also nice for the $$ but doesnt do as many test...good luck
