I am going to drop the filter and put in a new one today and when I was reading the paper work it said to put in DEXRON III Is this correct. I mean it is a manual transmission and I need to make sure that I do not add the wrong fluid?
Also is it okay to extract the clutch fluid and just replace or do I need to do something special.
Don't buy the filter from the catalogs. Go to any parts store and get a filter for a Ford FMX transmisson. Same one! They came in Fords from the mid 70's in Torinos, Cougars, F150's and some Mustangs. Will cost about $5 to $7 depending on the store.

Good advice for all 4+3 owners.
In May c4cruiser posted that the Ford FMX tranny filter was the same as the one the specialty houses were selling for twice as much. Then CentralCoaster looked up some part numbers and prices which he posted in that same thread.
