It isn't a typo on my part. I definitely, can and do, typo, but I've double checked and verified that I read it correctly. It is in RPO numerical order on page "RPO-10", "REV. 4-98" in the front of my "1984-89 Chevrolet Y Parts and Illustration Catalog" "Effective April 89" "General Motors Corporation" "14Y". I agree that it has to be an error. Besides your window sticker, group 1.055, where the fans switches are listed, show 1986 - 1989, W/B4P. For the 1985, which has it's own listing, there are no options or qualifications are listed, but it has the same part number.

I have come to the following conclusions from all of this:

1.) All 1985s have a fan switch, whether they have an auxiliary fan or not.
2.) That fan switch is in the right side head for the full model year.
3.) The option RPO# B4P did not exist in 1985, and that an auxiliary fan was a part of the V08 package, and possibly other, yet to be designated, packages.
4.) The fan switch is a "safety" for for the main (only) fan, on non-auxiliary fan equipped cars, in case of the failure of ECM activation.

Any and all disputes are welcome and accepted.

RACE ON!!!

Now I'm curious what the difference is between V01, V08, B4P, what years they go on, and if they overlapped.

I'm glad you asked. That made me look it up and see the details. "B4P" is the RPO titled, "Fan, Radiator Cooling Boost". I have known all along that it was the aux fan, BUT I only learned looking it up now, that the RPO #B4P is a Corvette only, designation and ONLY for the years, 1987 through 1989. Veddy interesting. We now know that B4P was valid 1986 - 1989.

CFI-EFI Quote:Possibly. My parts book shows the V08 RPO code to be non car specific and valid from 1976 to 1992. It may very well have had Corvette application only is 1985. The description of RPO# V08 is "Cooling system, Heavy Duty". My book gives no further details, such as whether or has a H.D. radiator, aux fan, or what.

CFI-EFI Quote:The situation is similar for the V01 option. That RPO code shows good from 1976 to 1992 and is non car line or model specific. The description for RPO# V01 is "Radiator, Heavy Duty". I believe there was no auxiliary fan available on the '84.

Yeah, that's just code mumbo jumbo. Was there in fact two different radiators? Or are they referring to oil coolers or....?

I don't see anything heavy duty about it
But i do have an oil cooler, does that make it a heavy duty cooling SYSTEM

So does this one! My sticker shows an '86 with B4P and V01 rpo's. It may hve been required for KC4. I don't remember when I ordered mine if you could select one and not the other. I ordered it over the phone actually and said give me all options available. I'll go through my paperwork to see if I can dig anything up on the V01.

1985
Z51 option, also HD cooling

Main fan and pusher fan up front.

Both come on @ 195 off @180

I had to put a kit on my cooling system when ther fans stopped working.

Replaced all sensors, replaced all relays, replaced all motors...traced al wiring, no issues. Still no fans.

So I got a kit from ecklers. It splices into the Aux. cooling sensor on the pas. side of the block, and runs to the relay. Works fine!

You are absolutely correct.

V01 = H.D. Radiator.
V08 = Cooling system, Heavy Duty.
B4P = Aux fan.
KC4 = Engine oil cooler.

I think all but the V08 are pretty self explanatory. V01, indeed, is a different (H.D.) part number radiator. V08 could include a V01, a B4P, a KC4, and a digital clock. Or it may simply be a 55% mix of antifreeze, instead of a 50% mix. Unfortunately, there is just no way to tell from my literature. Also, unfortunately, my book doesn't show prerequisites. Does KC4 in fact require a B4P? No help on that in MY book. My book does have a limited number of package broken downs. For instance it tells what all comes as a part of the Z51 package for 1987, 1988, and 1989. Again, unfortunately, there is no break down for 1984, 1985, and 1986. All, FWIW.

Now THERE is an ill conceived kit. Both fans come on as the stock thermostat opens and they never shut off. I want the fan motor concession for THAT outfit.

Yeah, who needs a thermostat that can open to 20 gpm when you can just have one that cracks open 3 gpm and some fans to supercool the water down to 70*F before it reenters the block.
