Does anyone know of a source, other than the Chevy dealer, for the vacuum hoses and other fittings on an 89 L98? I am looking at the really narrow hose(s) (almost like a tube more than a hose) that go from the TB to the canister in front of the driver's side front wheel.
I broke one of those brittle little hoses when I changed out my thermostat last night . I see that several of the online Corvette suppliers sell vacuum hose "kits" for older models, but not C4's. I would like to just replace all of them if anyone sells a package that includes all the hoses and fittings.
I'm in the same boat.
The Napa store here in Canada does not seem to have them.
If I do find them, how did you get the ends off? They seem to be glued. Does the hair dryer work here as well?
Thanks
My napa didn't have it either. What I did was bought some rubber vaccum hose with an inner diameter just smaller than the outer diameter of the hard plastic tubing. I then cut small pieces of the new hose and used it to splice back together the old tubes where it was broken.
The ends of the old tubes where it went into the plastic fittings was really stuck, but was not glued in. I took a tiny nail, dipped it in some oil, and worked it around the tubing where it goes into the rubber fitting. Go all the way around (the rubber it pretty flexible), work slowly, and you will be able to remove the plastic tube from the rubber fitting.
And yes, I do plan on replacing my handywork with the right tube(s) when I get a chance to make it be a Chevy dealer. At that point I may just buy all the vacuum hoses I can and just replace them all.
Good tip with the nail dipped in oil.
I would have likely used a knife or something sharp and made a mess of it. I have some parts scabbed back together like you mention but I think it's time to do a real fix on it.
I was on the verge of finding those to make it look original but wound up using regular vacuum hose so I never have the headache of those lines leaking again.
