I've not seen any that are pre-bent that are worth a sh*# for rear visability. I'll most likely get my next one custom-bent by a reputable shop. They can get it higher and a little further back so it tucks up next to the glass on the hatch.
I can't tell you how many times I tried to see who was behind me, only to have most of the car blocked by the roll-bar. It won't happen the next time.
BTW: Mine is an AutoPower bar. Very good quality, but not well thought out...just like everyone elses. They conform to SCCA, NCCC and NHRA minimum requirements for a roll-bar, and are the only ones (at least when I bought mine 4 years ago) that did.
I second the DRM piece. I've got one in both my vettes and I'm very happy with them. About 500.00 though. You can get an Autopower bar for about 250.00 or so. I used one of these in a race car I had.
I got mine from S&W Racecars (its an 8 point, but you dont have to put all the bars in) It cost $139 dollars and was a perfect fit in my car, Couldnt be happier with everything included in the kit.
I had the Auto Power bar in my 90 also. Fit was great, rear visibility was poor. But thats a trade off I suppose. It was the only mass produced bar that was approved for race use. Worlds of difference in how the car drove and handled. Especially with the top out. But even driving at 5mph you could tell it was in there.
I just installed the Autopower bolt in bar, with removable cross bars.
the front mount had to be shimmed up 3/16" to fit tight to the roof.
(now it squeeks where it touches, probably from chassis flex)
I would have designed it differently, but I like the fit to the roof line,
and the clearance back from the seat.
Does anyone have opinions on the strength of the bar if removable cross/horizontal bars are used? That would be a desirable feature for me, but I know it's weaker. The question is, how much weaker? Any opinions?
Yes 5 point belts do attach easily, I am tall 6'3" so the top bar limits rear sight. don't know how it compairs to Callaway piece. locally they were going to charge 200 to 300 so I bought a small wire feed welder and did it myself. It took about 3 hours to complete
Carbed C4...
What are your rear bar supports attached to? I didn't think there was a solid enough structure (meaning steel) in the center of the hatch area to properly support rollbar attachment. I thought this was why everyone else runs the rear support bars to the outside for attachment to the frame rails. What am I missing on your installation?
